Since the takeover by Broadcom, licensing models and terms for VMware have changed. If that has you checking whether your virtualisation should keep running on VMware, open platforms are worth a look.
Proxmox VE and OpenStack are open source. There are no licence costs for the platform, and you do not tie yourself to one vendor. We run both in our data centres in Germany, certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz.
You decide which route suits your workloads — we plan the move with you and then run the platform.

Two routes away from VMware
Both platforms run in our data centres in Germany, both with DDoS protection and a 24/7 on-call service. The difference lies in how you use and pay for resources. The two routes can also be combined.
Proxmox VE
Dedicated Private Cloud
Your own virtualisation platform on dedicated hardware, with no shared resources. From a single node to an HA cluster across two separate availability zones — fully managed by us. A fit if you want to keep running your virtual machines on your own hardware.
OpenStack
Secure Public Cloud
Compute, storage and network as infrastructure as a service. You create resources via self-service, adjust them as needed and pay by usage. A fit if you want to scale flexibly or set up workloads anew.

Every VMware environment is different. That is why we plan the move individually with you — scope, order and timeline are agreed together in a conversation.

Assessment
We look at your environment: virtual machines, storage, network, dependencies and your availability requirements.

Target design
Together we decide which platform fits and how the new environment should be built.

Planning
We determine which systems move in which order and agree the migration windows with you.

Move
We migrate the workloads together with your team and check them in the new environment.

Parallel operation and handover
If needed, the old and new environments run in parallel for a while. After that we take over running the platform.

DDoS protection included
DDoS protection is included for all customer systems — in the Dedicated Private Cloud just as in the Secure Public Cloud.
Security concept24/7 on-call service
There is a 24/7 on-call service for both platforms; in the Secure Public Cloud for the platform and for managed services on the platform. In the Dedicated Private Cloud we additionally take on installation, updates, monitoring and backups.
ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz
Certificate BSI-IGZ-0552-2023. The scope covers our data centres and cloud services.

Why switch away from VMware at all?
Since the takeover by Broadcom, licensing models and terms have changed. Whether a switch pays off for you depends on your environment and your contracts. We look at that together in a consultation.
Proxmox VE or OpenStack — which suits me?
The Dedicated Private Cloud with Proxmox VE runs on hardware for you alone and is structured much like a classic virtualisation environment: with live migration, HA cluster and a central web interface. The Secure Public Cloud with OpenStack provides resources via self-service and bills by usage. We work out with you which platform suits your workloads.
Are there licence costs?
Not for the platform: Proxmox VE and OpenStack are open source. You pay for hardware, resources and our operation. You will find the prices on the Dedicated Private Cloud and Secure Public Cloud pages.
What does the migration cost and how long does it take?
That depends on the size and structure of your environment. We agree scope, process and effort with you after the assessment.
Does my team have to carry out the migration itself?
No. We accompany you from the assessment to the handover. How much your team takes on itself is something we agree together.
Is DDoS protection also included with Proxmox VE?
Yes. DDoS protection is included for all customer systems, including in the Dedicated Private Cloud. On top of that there is a 24/7 on-call service.
Can I combine private cloud and public cloud?
Yes. You can use both platforms side by side. Which systems belong where is something we clarify during the assessment.
Where is my data stored?
In our data centres in Germany — Hanover, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt. kyberio is not subject to the CLOUD Act.
Can I test the Secure Public Cloud first?
