Connectivity

More than one cable into the network.

A data centre is only as good as its connectivity. Our facilities are connected to several carriers via separate cable routes, plus direct access to DE-CIX. You decide which route your traffic takes: our carrier mix, a carrier of your own or your own autonomous system.

Connectivity

Our internet backbone is connected to various carriers via several 10 Gbit/s links. In addition, our direct data exchange (peering) with numerous international providers at DE-CIX in Frankfurt am Main gives you short routes. Further carriers are present directly in our data centres and are available for direct connections.

You decide which route your traffic takes: our redundant carrier mix, a direct connection to a carrier of your choice or a connection to the cloud. A combination is also possible.

  • 99.99% network availability under SLA
  • Several carriers via separate cable routes
  • Directly connected to DE-CIX
  • Uplinks with 1 and 10 Gbit/s, more on request
  • BGP with your own autonomous system possible
  • Cross-connects between your racks
  • Protection in front and behind

Internet access

We provide you with one or more uplinks with dedicated network segments that support bandwidths of 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s, and higher bandwidth on request. If you use several uplinks, they can run in active-active or active-passive mode. The latter includes what is known as "primary failover" operation, in which one uplink is active and traffic is switched to a failover uplink only in the event of a fault, should the primary uplink be unavailable.

Several active uplinks can either be combined into an LACP channel or run independently of each other. In addition to our Ethernet connections, we also offer fibre connections, which can run at higher bandwidths with the appropriate equipment.

BGP routing

If you have your own autonomous system (AS), you can use BGP routing with us. BGP stands for Border Gateway Protocol. We provide you with 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s uplinks and the transfer network needed to implement BGP.

BGP keeps the network stable by making sure routers can adapt to route failures: if a path fails, an alternative is found quickly. BGP makes routing decisions based on paths defined by rules or network policies, which you can configure to your requirements.

Cross-connect

To link your infrastructure within one or both of our data centres, cross-connects are available as copper or fibre connections (single-mode 9/125 µm or multi-mode 50/125 µm fibre). These connections are also needed if you want to connect to an external provider, linking your infrastructure in the rack with the provider's at the handover point in our data centre.

Cloud connect

In addition to the carrier connections, we set up a direct connection to external cloud providers. Their services are then reachable via your own network instead of the open internet — that makes latency predictable and your traffic independent of transit. Which providers are an option in your case is something we clarify in a conversation.

Questions about connectivity

Do I have to use your carrier mix?

No. You use our redundant carrier mix, connect directly to a carrier of your choice or combine both. If you have your own autonomous system, you can also run your own BGP — we provide the uplinks and the address space needed for it.

What does a second uplink give me?

It takes over if the first one fails. Several active uplinks can be bundled into an LACP channel, which increases bandwidth, or run independently of each other, which separates the failure paths. Which makes more sense in your case depends on whether throughput or resilience matters more to you.

What is a cross-connect?

A direct line between two points in the data centre — for example between two of your racks or to another customer. It runs as a copper or fibre connection and not over the internet: no detour, no transit costs, very low latency.

Can I connect directly to a cloud provider?

Yes. In addition to the carrier connections, we set up a direct connection to external cloud providers, so their services are reachable like part of your own network — without the detour via the open internet. Which providers are an option in your case is something we clarify in a conversation.

Which response times do you commit to?

We commit to 99.99% network availability under SLA. We monitor around the clock, every day of the year. How quickly we intervene and through which escalation stages is set out in your contract — a time we have not committed to is not a time we state here.
