What a managed service means here
Managed does not mean "set up once". We provide the system, maintain the operating system and the software, apply security updates, monitor around the clock and resolve faults. Your application stays with you — everything beneath it is ours.
The systems are matched to your requirements and administered by a team of specialists. You decide whether they run on dedicated hardware, as virtual machines in our cloud, or as a mix of the two.

We work out with you the server environment that matches your requirements — on dedicated physical hardware, in a scalable virtualised environment, or as a mix of the two.

Together with you we analyse what your server environment has to do, so that the solution is cut to your requirements.

Drawing up the specification
The solution is set out in a specification, taking schedule and budget into account.

Implementation
The build runs within the agreed milestones. You sign off the environment once it is provided.

Ongoing maintenance
The environment is maintained continuously to the SLA and maintenance agreement set out for you, and scaled when needed.
Your own managed mail server
Run your own email platform — as a reseller or for your own needs. Every mail server instance runs on a dedicated virtual machine with guaranteed resources. Through LiveConfig you administer domains and mailboxes for separate tenants; spam filtering with blacklisting and DKIM are part of the system.

Load balancing
Spreading requests across several web and application servers — the point at which a cluster starts to make sense.
MoreBackup and archiving
The mail server packages include a daily backup with seven days of retention. Longer retention and disaster recovery are services in their own right.

What is the difference between a managed server and a root server?
With a root server you get the machine and are responsible for everything on it yourself — operating system, updates, security, monitoring. With a managed server we take that on: we maintain the operating system and the software, apply security updates, monitor around the clock and resolve faults. You look after your application.
Dedicated or virtual server — which suits me?
A dedicated server runs on hardware available to you alone; that suits steady high load and requirements for physical separation. A virtual server runs on its own VM with guaranteed resources and can be adjusted more quickly. We fully manage both. Details are on the web servers page.
Can I resell hosting under my own brand?
Yes. Web hosting, email hosting and domain administration are built for multiple tenants and are administered through LiveConfig and the domain robot respectively. You appear to your customers as the provider; we look after the system behind it. How the arrangement works is set out under becoming a partner.
Where do the systems run?
In our data centres in Hanover, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz (BSI-IGZ-0552-2023). Hanover has three availability zones, and the sites are more than 80 and more than 250 kilometres apart.
How highly available can the environment get?
In five stages: separate web and database servers, load balancing, several web and database servers, full clustering, and finally geo-redundancy across several sites. The stages are described on the web clusters page.
What response times do you commit to?
We monitor around the clock, every day of the year. How quickly we intervene and through which escalation stages is set out in your contract — a time we have not committed to is not a time we state here.
