Back up
your data now!

External backup: over a secured network, the data is stored in a separate fire protection zone, apart from the operational equipment. We also offer further backup options that can be extended and built out as requirements grow.

Backup – your options

Managed backup (onsite)

Save time and money with the managed backup services from kyberio. Regular automatic backup to external, central storage over a secured network protects you from human error, hardware failure and other risks that could lead to data loss.

Backup can be set up for the following types of data:

  • All stored application data
  • Content data
  • Configuration files
  • User files
  • Libraries and registry files

Managed backup (offsite)

Offsite backup is the process of creating a backup and transferring it to a remote data centre. Our managed backup already creates the backup in a separate building that sits in a different fire protection zone.

If there are requirements for a minimum distance between the data centres, we can back up your data at other German or international sites. Offsite backups protect you in a disaster scenario at the main data centre and, as a preventive measure, are essential above all as part of a disaster recovery plan.

Backup server

If you need a more flexible backup solution, or need physical hardware for your backups because of legal or compliance requirements, kyberio can set up a dedicated server to your specific requirements.

kyberio works with Veeam software, which can be used to implement a continuous data protection (CDP) scenario. The software can be used for both Windows- and Linux-based systems. For Proxmox environments we also run the Proxmox Backup Server.

Disaster recovery as a service

From backup to restart

A backup protects the data. A restart plan protects the operation. The two belong together, and both can only be planned together with you: which systems have to be running again first, how old may which data be, who decides on the switchover when it matters?

What we can offer for this today, with evidence:

  • Offsite backup to a remote data centre – the basis of every disaster recovery plan
  • Immutable backups that even malware cannot delete
  • Continuous data protection with Veeam for systems that cannot tolerate long gaps between backups
  • An annual disaster recovery test on the existing infrastructure, following an agreed concept

Recovery times, recovery points and a standby environment that is permanently available are not something we fix across the board – they depend on your environment and belong in an agreement, not on a website. Talk to us and we will work through the numbers with you.

Frequently asked questions about backup and disaster recovery

What is managed backup?

We set up your backup and run it: we agree the backup cycle, the directories to back up and the media rotation with you, and from then on the backup runs automatically. You neither have to look after software nor think about backup runs.

What is the difference between onsite and offsite backup?

With onsite backup, your data sits on central storage that is connected over a secured network and stands in a fire protection zone of its own – apart from the operational equipment. With offsite backup, we additionally transfer the backup to a remote data centre. That protects you even if the main data centre fails completely.

Does the backup protect against ransomware?

We work with immutable backups. Once written, they can no longer be changed or deleted – not even by malware that has gained access to your systems.

Which systems can be backed up?

Physical and virtual server systems running Windows and Linux. We back up application and content data, configuration files, user files, and libraries and registry files. We work with Veeam, which can also be used to implement continuous data protection.

How often are backups made, and how long is the data retained?

We decide that together. A common pattern is a daily incremental backup with a weekly full backup and a 30-day retention period; cycle, scope and retention follow your requirements.

Do I need my own hardware for the backup?

Not necessarily. If legal or compliance requirements call for physical hardware, or you need more flexibility, we set up a dedicated backup server to your requirements.

What is the difference between BaaS and DRaaS?

Backup as a service backs up your data and restores it. Disaster recovery as a service goes further: it is about getting the operation running again after an outage – in a defined order, with a checked plan and a regular test. The offsite backup is the basis; the plan is the actual work.

Is it checked that the data can actually be restored?

On request, we carry out a disaster recovery test once a year on the existing infrastructure, following a concept agreed in advance. What is checked and in what order we decide together beforehand.

Does this also count as archiving under GoBD?

Technically, we can store data so that it cannot be altered: backups can be stored write-protected, so that they can be neither overwritten nor deleted until the period expires — not even by someone with administrator rights. That is the basis on which audit-proof archiving is built. It does not mean we promise that your retention meets the GoBD (the German principles for proper digital bookkeeping and archiving): that involves the process documentation, the retention periods for your types of records and responsibility for the process — something your tax adviser assesses, not your data centre. Tell us which periods apply and we will set up the storage to match.

What recovery times do you commit to?

We set them per environment and write them into the contract. A general figure would be worthless here: how quickly a system is running again depends on its size, on the type of backup and on whether a standby environment is ready. Tell us how long your operation can withstand an outage — the setup follows from that, not the other way round.

What response times do you commit to?

We monitor around the clock, every day of the year. How quickly we intervene and through which escalation stages is set out in your contract — a time we have not committed to is not a time we state here.
