We provide it
We set up your backup server in our data centre and run it.

You add it
In Proxmox VE you add it as a storage target under Datacenter › Storage. The connection is encrypted via TLS.

You schedule the jobs
You set the schedule and the selection of VMs and containers in Proxmox VE as usual.

It runs
The first backup transfers everything. After that only changes go over the line.
What Proxmox Backup Server brings with it
These functions are standard in Proxmox Backup Server. We make sure they run reliably.
Incremental
After the first full backup it transfers only changed data. That keeps backup windows and the line lean.
Deduplicated
It stores identical data blocks only once, even across several VMs.
Encrypted
If you wish, Proxmox VE encrypts the data before it leaves your network. You keep the key.
Verified
Verification jobs read the backups regularly and detect damaged data before you need it.
Three ways back
Whole VM or container
You restore complete machines from the Proxmox VE interface, on the original node or on another one.
Individual files
You retrieve individual files and folders from a backup without restoring the whole machine.
Live restore
A VM starts while the restore is still running in the background.

Why not set up a backup server ourselves?
You can — Proxmox Backup Server is open source. For a real offsite backup, though, you then need hardware at a second site and someone to run it. We take care of both.
Does it work with our existing Proxmox VE cluster?
Yes. The backup server is integrated into Proxmox VE. You add it as a storage target and schedule the backups in the interface as usual.
Can we encrypt the backups?
Yes. If you wish, Proxmox VE encrypts the data before it leaves your network. The key stays with you. Keep it safe: without it, an encrypted backup cannot be restored.
How long are the backups kept?
As long as you need. Frequency and retention period are part of the backup concept and are set with you — they depend on how far back you need to be able to go and which retention periods apply to your data. Send us a short note on what your environment looks like, and we will work it out with you.
