GitLab
Your development platform — in your own house.
GitLab brings source code, code review, pipelines and registry together on one platform. We take on provisioning, maintenance and security for your GitLab environment, so your team can concentrate on development.
What GitLab does
From a line of code to the artefact
GitLab is a DevOps platform based on Git. Repositories, merge requests and code review live there, as do issues and boards for planning, CI/CD pipelines for building and delivery, a container and package registry for the results, and security checks within the workflow.
Access is through the web interface and through Git over SSH and HTTPS. Permissions can be granted per group and project, and sign-in can be connected to an existing directory — for example via Keycloak.
The appeal of your own instance is simple to name: source code is often a software company's most valuable asset. On your own instance it sits where you decide.
- Repositories, branches, merge requests
- Code review and approvals
- Issues, boards, milestones
- CI/CD pipelines
- Container and package registry
- Permissions per group and project
- Git over SSH and HTTPS
- Sign-in via SAML or OpenID Connect
What we take on
Managed GitLab
Speed up your digital transformation with the GitLab DevOps platform for agile teams. We take on provisioning, maintenance and security for your GitLab environment, so you can concentrate fully on your development processes.
- Server type virtual
- Access web interface, Git over SSH and HTTPS
- Security its own SSL certificate
- Operation monitoring, extendable and customisable
- Price on request
How much machine your instance needs depends mainly on the pipelines: a team that builds and tests every commit has different requirements from one that uses GitLab mainly as a place to keep source code.
Frequently asked questions
Why your own GitLab instance?
Because source code, build secrets and artefacts then sit in an environment whose location and access you know — in our case in data centres in Germany certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz, with no access under the US CLOUD Act.
Do I get CI/CD runners as well?
Yes, we run the runners too. They are the part that eats computing power and is hard to predict: a pipeline that builds ten times a day needs something different from one that kicks off on every commit. How large the runners are and how they are billed we therefore set based on your pipelines — not as a flat rate. If you would rather keep the runners in your own house, you can; the instance with us works with both.
Can we move from GitHub or GitLab.com?
GitLab comes with import tools, and Git repositories are portable anyway. How much work the move takes depends on pipelines, integrations and user management — we look at that beforehand.
Who updates GitLab?
We do. GitLab is released on a fixed monthly cycle, with security updates in between. We bring the instance up to date in agreed maintenance windows, instead of your team having to deal with it.
Who holds the GitLab subscription?
You do. We run the instance; the subscription for the Enterprise Edition is in your name — so it stays yours, even if you move operation elsewhere one day. The Community Edition does not need one.
