Global Server Load Balancing
Build geo-redundancy
with our global server load balancer
A load balancer absorbs the failure of a server. Global server load balancing absorbs the failure of an entire site: it decides at DNS level which site answers a request – by latency, location or system load.
What GSLB does
A level above the load balancer
Global server load balancing lets you take different regulatory requirements and content priorities into account deliberately, so that a global customer base is served the way it should be.
Use the flexibility of the system to bring in infrastructure from different providers at different sites. The result is a geo-redundant concept that combines availability with independence – and one that can take on further sites without rethinking the architecture.
- Availability across sites, worldwide or within one region
- Short response times through routing by latency, location or system load
- Scalability of the infrastructure by adding further sites
- Cost control through a network concept that fits together
- Commercial independence by bringing in several IT providers
- Run to our established security concept
- API for integration into your own processes
Geo-redundancy
Distance that counts when it matters
Geo-redundancy means: two sites are far enough apart that one event does not hit both at once – a power cut, a fire, a severed line.
Our own data centres are spaced accordingly: Hanover is the main site with three availability zones, Wolfsburg is more than 80 km away, Frankfurt more than 250 km. All sites are certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz (BSI-IGZ-0552-2023).
GSLB is the mechanism that turns separate sites into one service: it decides which site answers a request, and switches over when one stops answering.
Which sites are brought in for you – our own data centres, yours, or those of third parties – we work out in conversation. The system is expressly built to combine infrastructure from different providers.

What managed GSLB costs
The GSLB appliance is run entirely by us. The size follows the number of sites, requests and rule sets.
Managed GSLB

Three services, three levels
Load balancing, GSLB or CDN – which one when?
Load balancing
One site, one setup. Spreads requests at layers 4 to 7 across several servers and absorbs the failure of a single system.
To load balancingGSLB (this page)
Several sites, DNS level. Absorbs the failure of an entire data centre and directs requests to the right site.
CDN
Caches distributed around the world. Shortens load times and relieves your origin system – it does not spread load inside your setup.
To the CDNFrequently asked questions about GSLB
What is global server load balancing?
A method that distributes requests across several sites at DNS level. Depending on latency, geographic location or system load, a user is directed to the site that suits them best. If one site fails, the others take over.
What is the difference between GSLB and a load balancer?
A load balancer spreads requests across several servers within one environment – it provides load distribution and resilience there. GSLB works a level above and distributes between sites. That is how you absorb the failure of an entire data centre, not just of one server.
What do I need geo-redundancy for?
For systems that have to stay reachable even when an entire site fails – through a power cut, a fire or a severed line. In regulated sectors, geo-redundancy is also a requirement. Our sites are spaced accordingly: Wolfsburg more than 80 km from Hanover, Frankfurt more than 250 km.
Can I combine sites from different providers?
Yes. The system brings in infrastructure from different providers at different sites. That keeps you independent of any single provider.
Can GSLB be controlled programmatically?
Yes, through an API that can be built into existing processes.
What does managed GSLB cost?
The fully managed GSLB appliance comes in three sizes: S from €299.00, M from €399.00, L from €599.00 net per month. Additional security functions cost €199.00 net per month. Which size fits depends on sites, requests and rule sets.
What response times do you commit to?
We monitor around the clock, every day of the year. How quickly we intervene and through which escalation stages is set out in your contract — a time we have not committed to is not a time we state here.
Do my systems have to be hosted with you?
No. GSLB distributes between the sites you have — ours, your own or third-party ones, and mixed as well. What matters is that each site is reachable and can be checked, not who owns it.
