TYPO3
The CMS for large sites — with operation you can plan.
TYPO3 is designed for many editors, many languages and fine-grained permissions, and it is maintained in fixed LTS cycles. We run your installation on its own virtual machine in our data centres in Germany.
What TYPO3 does
Built for editorial teams, not for single pages
TYPO3 is an open-source enterprise CMS from the German-speaking world. It comes into play where many editors work on one site, content is kept in several languages and it has to be clearly regulated who may change what.
Several websites can be run in one installation, content shared between them, and drafts reviewed before publication. Extensions cover what the core does not include; custom development fits in through a documented interface.
For operation, one feature is particularly convenient: TYPO3 is released in long-term support versions with an announced maintenance period. When a version upgrade is due can be planned instead of waited for.
- Many editors, fine-grained permissions
- Multilingual in the core
- Several websites in one installation
- Workspaces and approvals
- Extensions and custom development
- LTS versions with a fixed maintenance period
- PHP and MySQL/MariaDB underneath
What we take on
TYPO3 on its own machine
Every instance runs on a dedicated virtual machine with guaranteed server resources, looked after by kyberio. Through the LiveConfig interface you manage the hosting accounts with multi-tenant capability and keep control over your web server.
- Server type virtual, its own VM
- Operating system Linux
- Storage from 50 GB SSD
- Database MySQL/MariaDB
- Web interface LiveConfig, alternatively Plesk
- Price on request
The control panel licence is in the price catalogue: LiveConfig Standard €9.90 net per month, Plesk between €12.99 and €41.99 net per month depending on the edition, in each case per virtual machine.
When an agency develops the site and we run it, that is the normal case — we are the operations partner, not a competitor for your project.
What comes with it
Firewall and WAF
Protection at the application level, placed in front and looked after along with it.
MoreStaging and deployment
A second instance for testing, plus the pipeline from there to live — set up as a project.
Database as a managed service
MySQL/MariaDB looked after rather than just running alongside — when the site calls for it.
MoreFrequently asked questions
TYPO3 or WordPress?
As a rule of thumb: TYPO3 when many editors, several languages and graded permissions are involved; WordPress when it needs to be quick and the site stays manageable. For operation it makes less difference than you might think — both need to be maintained.
Do you handle version upgrades?
Yes, as a project billed by effort. An LTS upgrade is not a maintenance window: extensions have to follow, customisations are checked, and testing happens beforehand on staging. Ongoing updates of the core and extensions we take on by arrangement; for a version upgrade we agree beforehand what lies with us and what with your agency — instead of sorting it out when it matters.
What happens when our version drops out of maintenance?
Then there are two routes: the upgrade to the current LTS version, or Extended Long Term Support from TYPO3 GmbH, which provides security updates beyond the regular end. We put you in touch — the contracting party is TYPO3 GmbH, not us. Which is cheaper in the individual case, we work out with you; an unmaintained TYPO3 on the internet is in any case not one of the two options.
Is there a staging environment?
Yes. We provide a second instance on which things are tested before they go live — separate from production, with its own address and its own database. We also set up the route from staging to live: via Git, via a deployment pipeline or however else you work. That is a project billed by effort, not a switch — but afterwards nobody has to copy files by hand any more.
Do you work with our agency?
Yes, that is the usual route. The agency develops, we run it. Which access and routes the agency needs for that, we clarify between the three of us.
Where does the site run?
In our data centres in Germany — Hanover with three availability zones, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, certified to ISO 27001 based on BSI IT-Grundschutz.
